What Does Scripture Indicate About Life’s Daily Conflicts In Which We Find Ourselves?

What is the underlying source of our conflicts?

Conflict Resolution vs Reconciliation - Lesson 2 - Repent Before God, Question 2, p. 27

Life is often filled with conflicts, both minor and significant, that challenge our patience, resolve, and faith. A closer look at James 4:1-3 and Genesis 3:5 provides valuable insights into the nature of these daily struggles and reminds us of the forgiveness that is available to us through grace.

James 4:1-3 states, “What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” These verses poignantly highlight the internal battles and desires that often lead to external conflicts. It is our unsatisfied desires and misplaced priorities that fuel disputes and disharmony with those around us.

Furthermore, Genesis 3:5 says, “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” This verse recounts the temptation in the Garden of Eden, where the serpent deceives Eve by appealing to her desire for wisdom and autonomy. This narrative underscores how the quest for power and self-gratification can lead to disobedience and the subsequent conflicts that arise from it.

Together, these scriptures shed light on the root causes of our daily conflicts. They remind us that much of our strife stems from within—our desires, pride, and the temptation to place our will above God’s. However, amidst this realization, we find solace in the promise of forgiveness. As believers, we are continually called to seek God’s guidance, confess our shortcomings, and embrace the grace that is freely given.

In moments of conflict, let us remember the words of 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This assurance of forgiveness can transform our approach to conflicts, encouraging humility, patience, and a renewed focus on aligning our desires with God’s will.

James 4:1-3 and Genesis 3:5 not only reveal the underlying causes of our daily conflicts but also point us towards the path of redemption and peace. By acknowledging our internal struggles and seeking God's forgiveness, we can navigate life’s challenges with grace and wisdom.
