A compelling vision of power dynamics for the church - Perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of interpersonal dynamics to understand is power. All relationships have power dynamics at work that continuously shape the level of impact we have on one another. It is essential for leaders (in particular) to pay closer attention to the ways power is at work in their relationships, in order to steward it more effectively. Together we will examine the different types of power and how to assess our own power thoughtfully, intentionally, and redemptively. How leaders steward power ultimately enables people to move toward greater flourishing or towards oppression. As Andy Crouch states, "who is flourishing because I am using power?" Examining the use of power is also a window to assess the relational health in a church. In a healthy church, power is regularly and consciously stewarded to empower the vulnerable, weak, and needy to flourish in a covenant relationship.
